The Humanitarian Role of International Migration Under the Geneva Conventions

Abstract
The international community has given significant attention to the phenomenon of migration, making it a key issue in the programs and activities of the International Labour Organization. Migration generally refers to the movement from one place to another with the intention of staying for an extended period in the host country.
However, due to international conflicts, wars, and acts of genocide affecting entire populations, migration and asylum have become pressing concerns, highlighting the humanitarian suffering of millions of individuals. This persists despite the global commitment to upholding human rights, which primarily entails refraining from committing human rights violations.
In the context of migration, this includes abstaining from arbitrary detention, torture, or the mass expulsion of migrants, which are among the most serious violations.
